The continuing development of Wilson Process Systems, the Hastings based contract electronics manufacturer, means new equipment and new positions within the company.

The continuing development of Wilson Process Systems, the Hastings based contract electronics manufacturer, means new equipment and new positions within the company.

To keep up with the workload, a new surface mount line has been installed that complements the already existing lines making PCB assembly on all three lines, interchangeable.

The new line comprises two QSA-30A high-speed, multifunction placement machines that can be used in tandem or independently, along with an SM Tech 100MV camera controlled solder paste printer using the DEK Vector micro-mount screen mounting system common to all our lines, and an inline Quad ZCR four zone, forced convection, reflow oven.

A recent review of the quality system has allowed Wilson Process Systems to be approved to the new BS EN ISO9001:2000 level.

The previous first class ISO9002 quality programme had already been improved upon by achieving the highest rating within the Cummins Group SQIP programme.

this supplier quality improvement programme raises, in a series of ten stages, the level of quality required by their group from ISO9002 to the equivalent of the motor industry's QS9000.

During the period under review, not only has the quality aspect been monitored, but also delivery service, pricing structure and other commercial aspects.

In addition, Wilsons also carries out predelivery testing and zero-defect inspection enabling all items to be guaranteed ready for immediate use by customers and their end users without any qualms of their being fit for purpose.

Following many years of loyal service to the company, a number of department heads have been made working directors of the company being responsible for the departments of which they were previously managers.

Consequently, the following appointments have been made : Steve Russell has been appointed Manufacturing Director, Jim Hobbs, Quality Director and Bob De Freitas, Materials Director.

All are still as approachable as ever and will gladly discuss any elements of business relating to their departments with interested parties.

Over recent months, Wilsons has improved its ability to auto-place LEDs rapidly and consistently in close-packed displays for such applications as moving message signs, direction indicators, warning signs, destination displays, advertising panels and video walls.

Substantial cost savings over hand-built boards can be achieved using auto placement.

To accomplish the auto-placement of components, Wilsons has five surface mount placement machines with onboard cameras to assist precise location and a full suite of auto-insertion machines for conventional leaded components, where built-in verification equipment is used to ensure that components placed meet specification.
