Power management chips look after telecomms supply

A Xicor product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Dec 24, 2002

A new range of smart power management products integrates power supply sequencing, system management and hot swap functions for power distribution from a -48V backplane.

Xicor has a range of smart power management products that integrate power supply sequencing, system management and hot swap functions to provide a complete solution to address power distribution from a -48V backplane.

The X80010 family - comprising X80010, X80011, X80012 and X80013 - have hot swap features that facilitate insertion and extraction of line cards, network interface cards and other peripherals while -48V power is present on the backplane.

Power supply sequencing allows for systematic on/off control of DC/DC convertors on line cards or other devices.

System management provides a monitor for the CPU host components to inform the system of power status.

With four independent built-in delay circuits for DC/DC sequencing, the devices can sequence and control up to five independent DC/DC convertors in parallel or relay modes.

The X80010 family offers selectable overvoltage and undervoltage detection and protection and has a battery or auxiliary voltage backup mode with undervoltage detection down to -20V.

Options for hard short retry, and delay with pin indicator are available; the X80010 and X80011 use "always retry with delay", and the X80011 and X80013 use "five-time retry with delay".

Displaying versatility, the family offers a contact bounce and high frequency noise filter, and resets for primary and secondary voltages.

With the devices, Xicor's focus is to provide a complete power distribution solution that can be used for designs from 1 to 10A for primary voltages (-48V) while providing DC module sequencing for secondary voltages from 0.9 to 5V.

The devices allow for hardware design flexibility by solving the problems associated with variations of load, current, transients, and choice of power FET.

Production parts are now available for the X80010, X80011, X80012 and X80013 in 32-lead QFN packaging from Xicor distributors.
