Digital pots aim for space saving applications
The X93155 and X93255 ultra-low-power digitally controlled potentiometers address new market needs for high volume and space constrained applications.
Offered in single and dual packages at highly competitive prices, the X93155 and X93255 are ultra-low-power digitally controlled potentiometers (DCPs) that address new market needs for high volume and space constrained applications.
By being digitally adjustable, the devices can help customers prevent stability issues due to vibration or shock in their systems commonly associated with mechanical potentiometers.
The DCPs in the X93155 and X93255 feature 32-tap wipers with an independent up/down interface.
Along with ultralow power dissipation - maximum standby current is 2.0mA, typical active current is 200mA - the devices operate from a supply voltage of 5V +/-10%, and achieve less than ñ0.2LSB typical differential nonlinearity.
Furthermore, unlike one-time programmable or volatile solutions, the X93155 and X93255 integrate nonvolatile memory for the wiper position to help lower the programming current and to eliminate additional high-voltage supplies required by one-time programmable products.
The simple up/down interface can be used for personalised environments such as LCD contrast and backlight brightness control in cellphones, PDAs and GPS receivers.
The integration of reprogrammable, solid-state potentiometers with an up/down interface is important in systems requiring multiple gains, and in reference voltage and bias calibration applications such as common mode amplifier biasing and feedback gain adjustments.
Other target applications include process controls requiring parameter retention and data acquisition systems requiring preconfigured reference voltage levels.
Providing customers with ultra-low-power potentiometers in single and dual packages is a natural move for Xicor.
With the X93155 and X93255, the company further broadens its XDCP line to provide designers with more high performance, low power, competitively priced DCPs.
Production samples are available in 8-pin MSOPs and 14-pin TSSOPs.
