Xilinx will showcase programmable logic solutions for the communications infrastructure and handset markets at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.

Xilinx will showcase its industry-leading programmable logic solutions for the communications infrastructure and handset markets on Stand 1E47 at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona The company will demonstrate how its programmable CoolRunner-II low-power, low-cost CPLDs are adopted by leading companies such as High Tech Computer Corp (HTC), the world's largest provider of PDA phones based on Windows Mobile, for its PDA phone product families

Demonstrations will also include baseband and radio card solutions for mobile phone basestations and solutions based on the recently announced Virtex-5 SXT DSP optimised platform FPGA.

On-stand demonstrations include a high performance digital radio subsystem for mobile phone basestations in which both the baseband and radio cards can be software-configured for either W-CDMA or WiMAX.

The subsystem uses programmable logic technology from Xilinx to achieve the required flexibility and performance.

The radio card, developed by Axis Network Technology also complies with the initial working group recommendations for 3GPP-LTE.

Handset demonstration platforms will focus on the methodology used to quickly incorporate new features while meeting stringent power consumption, size, and cost requirements of the dynamic converged handset market.

Two separate platforms with processor-driven central motherboards feature the Texas Instruments OMAP processor and the Marvell Xscale processor.

Several plug-in modules powered by the low-cost CoolRunner-II CPLDs showcase Wi-Fi, mobile video, and emerging memory interfaces.

There will also be a Virtex-5 SXT demonstration, showing a number of digital front end functions implemented on a Virtex-5 SXT device - the latest high-performance DSP optimised platform from Xilinx.
