Fixture takes JTAG functional testing
onboard
The XJTAG Professional development system has been integrated with a novel two-step test fixture that now provides both in-circuit and JTAG functional testing.
XJTAG has signed a technology agreement with German printed circuit board (PCB) test specialist Technotime Electronic, which has resulted in the XJTAG Professional development system being integrated with Technotime's novel two-step test fixture solution With "XJTAG inside", the Technotime system now provides in-circuit and JTAG functional testing all from one single, modular test fixture

Boundary scan answers CEM test demands
UK based contract electronics manufacturer Barric has selected XJTAG as its boundary scan test solution partner.
By combining this capability, engineers have a solution that is quick and easy to set up (1-2 days as opposed to 4-6 weeks for some test fixtures) and can provide near 100% test coverage much more competitively than other similar products.
The Technotime system works with all leading in-circuit test (ICT) systems.
In addition, having XJTAG built-in provides Technotime's customers with the capability to test both JTAG-enabled boards - those containing one or more ball grid array (BGA) or field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, as well as nonJTAG enabled PCBs by using XJTAG's XJIO expansion board.

Development system suits EMS demands
SMS Electronics has bolstered its already extensive test capability with the addition of the XJTAG boundary scan development system.
Besides its 208 digital I/Os, the XJIO board features 16 JTAG controllable analogue I/Os (eight ADCs and eight DACs) that allow power rail verification and analogue inputs to be stimulated.
Commenting on the announcement, Simon Payne, XJTAG's CEO, says: "We are delighted that Technotime has selected XJTAG as its boundary scan partner".
"The combination of our powerful product with Technotime's innovative two-step offering creates a compelling solution for companies looking for a cost-effective solution to production line testing".
"Also, the agreement provides XJTAG with sales potential and exposure in the much larger mainstream PCB test market".
Technotime's new and powerful modular test solution combines several different elements to create an all-in-one in-circuit and JTAG functional test system suitable for OEMs, original design manufacturers (ODMs) and contract manufacturers.
The vacuum driven universal contact module ((UCM) test fixture has a unique two-height test probe feature which enables simple switching between in-circuit and JTAG functional test modes which is necessary to avoid interference.
To overcome testing devices with no board testpoint and achieve high test coverage, the system also includes Technotime's DCR (direct contact route) ultra fine pitch technology, which allows direct contact (from the top and bottom of the PCB) with very low raster (0.127 pitch) devices.
The Technotime solution also features the full capability of the XJTAG Professional boundary scan development system which enables engineers to test a high proportion of the circuit (both JTAG and cluster devices) including BGA and chip scale packages, such as SDRAMs, Ethernet controllers, video interfaces, Flash memories, FPGAs and microprocessors.
XJTAG also enables in-system programming of FPGAs, complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs) and Flash memories.
"The XJTAG system complements our solution perfectly as it is simple to use and enables the rapid development of functional tests which, once written, can be reused throughout the product lifecycle", says Bruno Ratzky, Business Manager, Technotime Electronic.
"We believe that our new competitively priced 'XJTAG Inside' multi application fixture meets the test needs of today's PCB assemblers as it provides high test coverage, fast fixture set up, yield improvement and significantly reduced test costs".
Pricing for Technotime's TT-JTAG208 Functiontestsystem (stand-alone and ICT pluggable versions) starts from around Eur 29,000.
