A rugged new 1.5kVA uninterruptible power supply is designed for naval or ground mobile military applications where high levels of shock or vibration are likely to damage an industrial UPS.

Power specialist, XP Power, has announced a rugged new 1.5kVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS), the MXi1500, for naval or ground mobile military applications where high levels of shock or vibration are likely to damage an industrial UPS.

It is available in 19in rack-mount format with the option of a ruggedised transportation case.

The 19in rack format MXi1500 and battery pack are each just 2U high.

The unit features integral battery heating pads that are used to prevent low temperatures adversely affecting battery performance.

This enables reliable startup down to -20C in the standard product and a customised version that operates down to -40C is also available.

Based on the market-leading Xi1500 Series COTS UPS, the MXi Series is 87% efficient and accepts dual AC inputs, so that in the event of failure of one supply the unit will take power from an auxiliary supply to ensure the battery backup capability is maintained.

Input transient suppression and EMI filtering is included to ensure reliable operation where the AC supply is subject to interruptions, voltage variations, transient spikes and high noise levels.

Integral electronic bypass protects the output and fault conditions are indicated both on an LCD panel and by an audible alarm.

The standard MXi battery module houses eight VLRA-type batteries packs with a 5 or 10-year design life.

They take less than 4 hours to recharge to 90% capacity.

Monitoring and control is provided via an RS232 interface and the software supplied with the UPS supports all versions of Windows, plus Novell and Linux.

The MXi1500 uninterruptible power supply is available in a dust and moisture proof transportation case that and is designed to enable the UPS to be operated in harsh environments.
