ZBD Displays has appointed Clive Mayne as Chief Operating Officer to step up its product development schedule.

With over 25 years' experience in the electronic engineering market, Mayne has held a variety of senior positions focused on the development of high-technology products and the management of operational divisions.

Most recently, he held the position of VP of Research and Development and Business Management at Red-M, a supplier of wireless solutions to enterprises, which he cofounded in 1999.

Henri-Luc Martin, CEO, ZBD Displays, comments: "As a result of our collaborative development work with Varitronix, ZBD will have its zenithal bistable display available for commercial supply during the first half of 2004".

Martin continues: "Product vendors and OEMs have expressed a high level of interest in our display technology.

Adding Clive's experience to the team will enable us to accelerate the technology's commercialisation and establish ZBD as the leading supplier of bistable LCD displays".

In his role at Red-M, Mayne was instrumental in leading the company's business strategy for technology development, product management, manufacturing and logistics.

Under his guidance, he established the company as a world leader and facilitated raising $35 million of funding within 18 months of its inception.

In addition, his technical expertise enabled Red-M to generate key intellectual property and gain multiple industry awards for its product portfolio.

These awards include the World Economic Forums' Technology Pioneer Status 2003, Networking Industry Award 2002's Most Innovative Product and Bluetooth Congress 2000's Innovation Award.

Mayne previously held a number of senior positions including Senior Director of Research and Development at Madge Networks, Technical Director at Specialix International, Director of Software Business and Head of Product Management at Fujifilm Electronic Imaging and General Manager at Crosfield Electronics.

Mayne comments: "ZBD has a unique technology with capability not only for black and white and greyscale displays, but also for colour and beyond.

This positions us perfectly to establish ZBD bistable LCDs as the technology of choice for portable electronic devices".
