The DVD player market is the fastest growing sector of consumer electronics, forecast at 60 million units in 2003, growing to 125 million in 2006 (iSuppli Corp).
A major driver of this growth will be the proliferation of home theatre systems, a significant proportion of which will feature DVD players equipped with built-in audio amplifiers.
The Zetex solution comprises a combination of six ZXCD1000 audio amplifier controller ICs supported by discrete mosfet output bridges to deliver an audio power of 50W for each of five main speakers and 100W for a subwoofer.
Providing a power efficiency greater than 90%, the ZXCD1000 Class D solution enables the six audio amplifier channels to be neatly packed into a slimline DMTech DVD unit that also incorporates an AM/FM tuner.
The efficiency of alternative Class A and Class AB type audio amplifiers is just 20 and 60%, respectively.
Commenting on the design win, Andrew Stewart, Manager of the Zetex Signal Management Product Group said, "DMTech product designers have made full use of the competitive advantages offered by Acoustar Class D audio technology, namely higher power, space saving and an excellent sound quality".
A spokesman for DMTech said, "We are committed to providing real benefits to our customers in terms of product quality, price and design innovation.
