Convertor ensures accurate LED driving
Used with a high-efficiency switching transistor, the Zetex ZXSC400 voltage-mode boost convertor IC enables the current in an LED chain to be accurately set and monitored by a single resistor.

Rectifier controller makes MOSFETs behave
Zero point detector driver allows designers to replace lossy Schottky diodes with surface mount MOSFETs for improved efficiency in power supply designs.
Making the solution a highly scalable one, the use of Zetex switching transistors with ratings of up to 40V, on the boost convertor output allows up to eight LEDs to be chained in series for the best possible LED current matching.
The ZXSC400's 1.8 to 8.0V supply voltage range makes it suitable for use with all common portable equipment battery options.
The typical efficiency of the SOT23-6 packaged boost convertor is 80% over a wide range of output current.
At 4.5uA, the current consumed by the device in shutdown mode makes it well suited to battery powered applications.
For applications driving up to four LEDs, the use of the ZXSC400 with a Zetex NPN transistor and Schottky diode combination in a 3 x 2mm micro leaded package also ensures that external component count and PCB space requirements are kept to a minimum.
The ZXSC400 voltage-mode boost convertor supports a wide range of lighting applications including general LED backlighting and driving from a battery source, white LED backlighting for colour LCD panels and high-performance white LED flashlights.
