8bit MCU takes 15 Internet protocols onboard
ZiLog has begun shipments of its eZ80 Webserver (eZ80190), enabling easy, cost-effective, direct connections to networks and the Internet.
Frugal IrDA transceivers can stay on all the time
ZiLog has released the first devices in its new UltraSlim IrDA transceiver family designed to bring always-on, always power-efficient infra-red connectivity to compact portable systems.
The new F08 and F04 devices offer smaller packages and reduced memory sizes for many cost-conscious applications especially consumer electronics, industrial control, building control and medical devices.
The Zilog Z8 Encore! F08 and F04 devices feature 1Kbyte of linear register SRAM, as well as a robust array of peripherals, including one 9bit UART port with integrated IrDA endec, two 16bit counter timers and a five-channel 10bit A/D convertor.
Z8 Encore! devices operate at more than twice the speed and at three times faster instruction execution than Zilog's classic Z8 MCU, while maintaining backwards compatibility with this popular architecture.
The architecture uses Zilog's proprietary register-to-register approach to create designs that are much simpler to program and deliver higher throughput than competing accumulator-based approaches.
The devices are designed to meet the needs of designers working on lower cost, fast time-to-market consumer and appliance applications such as motor control, security systems, home appliances, personal electronic devices, and sensors.
The new devices are packaged in SOIC and SSOP packages with 20 or 28 pins.
The Z8 Encore! Z8F08 (8Kbyte) will sell for $2.26 to $3.04 each in 1000s (depending on configuration).
The Z8F04 (4Kbyte) costs $1.51 to $2.21 each in 1000s (depending on configuration).
