For a limited time only, development kits for the Zilog Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin microcontroller will be available for just US $9.95, a huge 80% discount on the regular US $49.95 retail price Zilog's "Spring into action" promotion runs until 30th June 2005 and provides the design community - from professional engineers to design students to hobbyists - with a cost-effective means to experiment and explore the wealth of design possibilities of the 8-pin Z8 Encore! XP

The device offers designers a unique opportunity for developing applications in areas as diverse as motor control, security systems, battery charging, power supply design, electronic cooling, small domestic appliances, personal electronic devices, home automation and sensors monitoring (for example, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors).

"Zilog is renowned among the design community for offering compelling, quality products at highly competitive prices, including comprehensive development kits that empower engineers with the necessary tools they need to develop meaningful and exciting products", commented Ramesh Ramchandani, Zilog's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

"Our 'Spring into action' campaign takes this a step further, offering a complete development kit with full ANSI C-compiler for under US $10".

"We are actively encouraging as many people as possible to experience the ease of design and rich feature set that the Z8 Encore! XP Family has to offer".

Since its launch in late February this year, the Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin, nicknamed "the tiny dynamo" by Zilog insiders due to its impressive feature set and compact sise, has been extremely well-received and generated significant interest and positive feedback from customers and industry analysts alike.

In common with other Z8 Encore! XP devices, this easy-to- use, 8-pin version uses Zilog's popular eZ8 core, which offers design engineers a high level of integration with low overall system costs.

This commonality enables ease of design and, because all Z8 Encore! XP devices are code compatible, allows for easy product migration.

compared with competing solutions, the Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin stands out in terms of functionality, features and overall performance.

"We believe the Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin is a winning proposition, and once they've tried it, we expect our customers to agree with us", continued Ramchandani.

"We have included an impressive array of on-chip features, such as a full-range temperature sensor, single-pin debugger and transimpedance amplifier, onto a device that offers unparalleled ease of use, is fully scalable with other Zilog devices, reduces overall system cost and time to market for our customers' designs".

"Spring into action" promotional kits are available to order by logging onto a unique promotional website - www.zilog.com/SpringIntoAction - and completing a simple registration and order form.

The website includes details and specifications of the Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin and accompanying development kit.

What's more, every customer that orders a kit via the website has the option to enter into a prise draw to win a five-night trip to Cancun, Mexico, including flights.

Winners will be announced shortly following the end of the promotion.

Terms and conditions apply to the prise draw.

From the concept stage of a project right through to completion of the design, the tools included in the Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin development kit aim to make this process as smooth as possible.

Included in the development kit are: a Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin MCU; a Z8 Encore! XP 8-pin development board; a USB smart cable; a 5V DC universal power supply; the ZDSII integrated development environment (IDE); a full ANSI C-compiler; sample code; and a document browser.

Documentation includes: a development kit quick start guide and user manual; the ZDSII user manual; the eZ8 CPU user manual; a product specification; product briefs; and application notes.

Development kits for 20- and 28-pin Z8 Encore! XP microcontrollers are also available at the regular price of US $49.95.
