They are fully compatible with other Z8 Encore! and Z8 Encore! XP devices, providing customers with a seamless migration path between product lines.
This ease of migration means greater choice and total flexibility for engineers when considering application design.
The have the option to choose higher or lower specification microcontrollers based on their particular project requirements, and to move between families as their application develops and the demands changes.

Microcontroller upgrades for networking duties
The latest addition to the eZ80Acclaim! family of 8bit MCUs is an enhanced device designed for use in Internet/intranet-based networking and communications applications.
The Z8 Encore! XP family, for example, is a high-end product offering a rich array of on-chip features such as a full temperature sensor, analogue comparator and transimpedance amplifier.
If a customer begins their design with the new Z8 Encore! Z8F0823 microcontroller and decides they need to add-in the extra features offered by the Z8 Encore! XP family to meet the needs of their application, they are now able to migrate their code and design easily and quickly with pin-to-pin accuracy.
Conversely, if a customer using the Z8 Encore! XP family does not necessarily require the full feature set in an application they are working on, they can scale down to the lower specification Z8 Encore! product and save on cost.
In addition, the Z8F0823 family facilitates seamless migration from the Z8F0423 4Kbyte family to 8Kbyte for code intensive applications.
"The Z8 Encore! family of Flash microcontrollers, we believe, is superior to what is currently being offered in the marketplace by our competitors", said Ramesh Ramchandani, Zilog's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
"Its flexibility, high performance, scalability and ease of migration, along with a robust feature set, provides all of the components necessary for design engineers to tackle today's most demanding applications at a highly competitive price level".
"The latest device family underlines our commitment to making the design process easier by giving customers the knowledge that their designs are fully transferable between product lines and whatever their requirements are, Zilog more than meets them".
The Z8 Encore! Z8F0823 devices will be sold in 20-pin and 28-pin packages with the optional 10bit A/D convertor.
It will be priced at $1.14 for a 28-pin SOIC with an A/D convertor and $1.06 for a 20-pin SOIC without an A/D convertor, each in 1000-unit quantities.
A full-featured development kit supporting the new Z8F0823 Series is available, including a full ANSI C compiler, for a low price of US $39.95.
Both the development its and silicon will be available through Zilog's regular distribution channels at launch.
