SMT boards enable novel cash counter
Zirkon has completed an initial manufacturing order for Volumatic's Omal Link cash counter, which has just been launched across the UK, Europe and the USA.
Both modules are primarily for use in conjunction with a battery to provide a high reliability uninterruptible DC power system.
Duvine selected Zirkon as a manufacturing partner in 2001, and work began on the power supply management systems just over a year ago, with Zirkon providing manufacturing, assembly and test services to the stringent standard of IPC-a 610.
Russell Jacques, Technical Director at Duvine Development said: "We chose to work with Zirkon because of the full range of capabilities it offers - particularly surface mount, through hole, final assembly and test, as we have found it difficult to find a company capable of doing all four under one roof".
"We also like the flexibility of Zirkon's service and that they were able to produce small batches of 200 units initially, yet with the scope to expand the project to large volume as the demand grows.
This is particularly appealing for Duvine because we are currently looking to move away from in-house assembly.
The speed and accuracy that we are guaranteed with Zirkon is also very important to us".
Tony Inskip, Director at Zirkon said: "At Zirkon we have a considerable amount of knowledge and experience which we have been able to share with Duvine throughout the course of this project.
We have focused on developing an individual working relationship with Duvine, as we do with all of our customers, which in turn adds specific value to their business".
"Continual investment in technology is vital for providing our customers with excellent product quality.
Last year we invested over GBP 400,000 in additional surface mount technology and just before Christmas we invested GBP 160,000 in new AOI equipment".
The recent purchase of AOI (automatic optical inspection) equipment consists of the VT-9300 Xpress (high speed, post reflow AOI system for electronics assembly) and OptiGraf (statistical process control software package), both from Orbotech.
