Zirkon has completed an initial manufacturing order for Volumatic's Omal Link cash counter, which has just been launched across the UK, Europe and the USA.
The research has highlighted a need for greater access to information, and better communications between businesses in the industry to discuss issues and compare findings.
Zirkon has found that many companies are still not aware of the disruptive affect that the directives may have on their products or business processes.
Products in the areas covered by the legislation include: household goods, from TVs and washing machines to toasters or stereos; IT and office equipment such as computers and photocopiers; vehicles containing electronic or electrical elements; industrial equipment containing named hazardous substances; lighting and audio equipment for both professional and personal use.
The list of goods affected is extensive, and continues to grow.
Zirkon has been working with its suppliers for the last 12 months and its clients for the last six months to prepare well in advance for the changes.
Although it is not currently possible to build and test fully compliant products due to issues in sourcing suitable components, there is still time for companies to review their internal systems and processes and designs.
Zirkon is encouraging businesses to identify where changes will need to be made, and advising where structures can be put in place now to enable a smooth transition when the time comes.
As part of Zirkon's ongoing drive to raise awareness throughout the industry and encourage a proactive approach to the issue, information packs are being offered to anyone concerned about how the directives will affect their products.
In conjunction with that, a new web page has been incorporated into the Zirkon site to provide background information surrounding the implications of the WEEE and RoHS directives.
