Virtual prototyping cuts MCM design time

Zuken's Hot-Stage 4 high-speed virtual prototyping environment is now supported by the company's upgraded PCB and multichip module (MCM) layout tool, Visula 6.0.

Zuken's Hot-Stage 4 high-speed virtual prototyping environment is now supported by the company's upgraded PCB and multichip module (MCM) layout tool, Visula 6.0 Visula Layout is a central component in Zuken's Board Integrity Solution and is used for the layout of complex, multilayer, fine-line and surface mount printed circuit boards

The addition of Hot-Stage 4 will provide a virtual prototyping environment by enabling both design engineers and layout engineers to solve signal integrity, EMI, thermal and manufacturability issues in the early stages of product development.

This will result in fewer design iterations and reduced time to market.

The schematic-style Scenario Editor within Hot-Stage 4 helps to ensure that realistic constraints are set by enabling "what if" experimentation with drivers, receivers, terminations and net topologies.

Experimentation within the same environment then helps resolve problems in physical design.

The router, which uses simulation rather than algorithms to derive delay information, ensures that delays are accurate, even for the highest clock speeds likely to be encountered over the next few years.

This combination of features enables the constraints driven design process to deliver right by-construction boards and MCMs.

The embedding of the Zuken router into Visula 6.0 delivers a complete design flow, with improved interactive and automatic routines, within a single, productive design environment.

Visula 6.0 also features many enhancements that include an improved graphical user interface, new tools for via manipulation, additional solder mask and silk screen manufacturing checks, and electrical "groups" support.

Visula library tools have been updated with the addition of more package and schematic symbol generator wizards, plus support for CSV files, and a new graphical post-processing interface gives the ability to display and manipulate multiple views of a design on a single or multisheet plot.
