A novel filtering technology accurately controls the direction of emitted light from LCDs as well as reducing screen reflections, enhancing contrast ratios and improving readability in direct sunlight.

Zytronic's new robust optical control filter system is suitable for a wide range of applications that are required to operate in varying ambient lighting conditions and where the viewing angle must be controlled to reduce unwanted reflections or to enhance privacy.

The safety of motorists is always a primary concern, and so the technology will be ideal for in-car satellite navigation and integrated vehicle entertainment systems for example, where sunlight readability and the elimination of distracting reflections on windscreens during night time operation are essential design criteria.

Zytronic's optical control filter system takes the form of a very thin and lightweight polycarbonate film that can be bonded directly to the front of the LCD.

The material has been produced using advanced lamination bonding and vacuum deposition techniques to integrate conventional technologies such as privacy louver matrices, with a new and specialised combined antireflection and antiglare coating.

In addition, Zytronic has also developed a proprietary method for the cost-effective bonding of this film to the LCD.

The result is an optical filter technology that will meet the most stringent optical and environmental specifications, including those demanded by European car manufacturers.

Zytronic's optical control filter system can be used with display sizes of up to 18in and can be supplied with a range of different surface finishes.
